The Ebbs and Flows of Cancer Treatment - Snapshot 9

Feeling safe in the hands of wonderful staff.

Unique and shared

The Snapshots on this Blog share how I reframed a challenging experience into one of meaning. They are shared in the hope that, just as I gained wisdom and helpful practical tips from others, my experience might do the same. At the same time, cancer touches each person in a unique manner, marked by its own set of challenges and emotions. Since everyone’s experience is unique, I hope my Snapshots inspire others to explore their own experience with cancer and reframe their own sense of meaning.

A big thank you

A cancer diagnosis and treatment can be daunting. Yet, like a tiny bee dancing around a sunflower, I felt safe in the hands of the wonderful staff who treated me at the Olivia Newton-John Wellness and Research Centre. I want to give a big shout-out to everyone in the Day Oncology team (and volunteers who tended to our food and drink needs); the Hospital in the Home team; the Clinic doctors; the SURC team and Ward 6 South-- who were just a phone call away; the Radiology team who inserted the port; and finally, the Austin Pathology team. My interactions with staff were clear and compassionate, and I will be forever grateful.

I am thankful for the skill and kindness of the staff at the Austin Hospital.

Note: Each Snapshot on the Blog was written last year, before I had fully finished chemotherapy. Then, about eight weeks after treatment, something unexpected happened that completely turned my world upside down.

This change will be shared next week as Snapshot 10, the final post in the series.
